City walls of Gorinchem

Gorinchem still has its original city walls. The walls form a complete circle, and you can walk along them. The specially designed walking path offers stunning views over the rivers, which is unique in the Netherlands! Along the way, take a virtual time journey to the Disaster Year 1672. Three VR poles tell the story of a soldier, citizen, and farmer in the Old Dutch Waterline.

Did you know you can take a complete walk along the city walls. The City Wall Walk is a 5 km route along the city walls and highlights from the city’s (primarily military) history. Discover the stories behind the beautiful facades and buildings at your own pace. What was the Tollhouse used for? What is a bastion? Or a ravelin? Take a break on a bench and enjoy the beautiful views over the river.
